Maori Songs - Uhia mai ra

Uhia mai ra

Uhia mai ra, to wairua tapu e
Ki te minenga,ki te minenga katoa
Murua, murua ra nga hara kino e
Kia ara ake, kia ara ake nga iwi

E Ihu e, nau mai ra ki ahau
E Ihu e, te timatanga me te mutunga
Ko Ihu e te ariki, te atua
Ko Ihu e te waiora mo te ao katoa
u…u…u…u…

Eagles wings

Here I am waiting
Abide in me I pray
Here I am longing for you
Guide me with your love
And bring me to my knees
May I know Jesus more and more

Come live in me all my life take over
Come breathe in me and I will rise on eagles wings

I’m gonna rise (8x)

James Cook High School

James Cook High School visited our school and performed for Maori Language Week.
What a treat.  The tamariki in Tr1 did some writing around the experience.
We were all impressed with the performance.

Mataariki Celebrations

Mataariki Celebrations

Last term we celebrated Mataariki.  Our tamariki did a lot of amazing things.

We painted, cooked, made musical instruments and wove flax.   Then we created tukutuku panels and crafted some amazing art.  We also learnt a lot about Mataariki and why we celebrate this event.

Mataariki

Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki (the Pleiades) signals the Māori New Year. Traditionally, it was a time for remembering the dead, and celebrating new life. In the 21st century, observing Matariki has become popular again.

Buddy Reading with Tr4

Tuakana/ Teina

On Friday afternoon we got together with Tr 4 for some buddy reading.   Our Tuakana helped us read our poems and we listened as they read to us.   Reading together helps us grow our brains.  Watch the link below and see what happened.
