James Cook High School

James Cook High School visited our school and performed for Maori Language Week.
What a treat.  The tamariki in Tr1 did some writing around the experience.
We were all impressed with the performance.

Mataariki Celebrations

Mataariki Celebrations

Last term we celebrated Mataariki.  Our tamariki did a lot of amazing things.

We painted, cooked, made musical instruments and wove flax.   Then we created tukutuku panels and crafted some amazing art.  We also learnt a lot about Mataariki and why we celebrate this event.

Mataariki

Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki (the Pleiades) signals the Māori New Year. Traditionally, it was a time for remembering the dead, and celebrating new life. In the 21st century, observing Matariki has become popular again.

Buddy Reading with Tr4

Tuakana/ Teina

On Friday afternoon we got together with Tr 4 for some buddy reading.   Our Tuakana helped us read our poems and we listened as they read to us.   Reading together helps us grow our brains.  Watch the link below and see what happened.

Te Roopu Reo Rua Tahi Trophy

Te Roopu Reo Rua Tahi won this very large and beautiful trophy on Friday 29th May, at assembly.  We were very surprised and proud.  Look the trophy is as nearly as tall  as we are!  We are going to write about why we won this trophy when we return to school next week.
